Woodlands Ring Sec Netball Challenge '06::
I'm dead tired but I'm on cloud 9. I just came back from a netball challenge at Woodlands Ring Sec. The game is not for me la.. it's for my girls. I want them to have fun and play as much netball as they can. The day doesn't start that well for me.
I woke up around 7 am and realise that I totally forgot the bibs and balls in school. I have to disturb my hubby's sleep and of course he wasn't happy about it. We had a small quarrel. I feel so bad to disturb him. After he send me back to Woodlands Ring Sec, we were on an ok footing. Not talking much nor quarreling. The moment I step in the compound of the school, my heart sank as I saw Evergreen Pri. The school has excellent netball players. Their skills are slightly superior than my girls. But it's ok. I was just hoping a miracle happen so that we could at least win for once. But I know its hard and I don't want to stress up the girls.
I had to do split them to 2 teams, A and B. A had the school team, (Sakeenah, Rohainy, Anisah, Qamanur, Nazihah, Hanisah & Iznie). Since they are quite strong, Azna & I decided to to put Zarifah in the other team as we think that they would want a stronger support. So Nadiah & Ratna was the reserves.
Team A played hard but at first it lack the drive and fire. The 1st 2 matches they play was quite mediocre. Their 3rd match was with Evergreen Pri. Before they played, the girls mentioned that they want to win against them badly. So I just told them if they want it badly, they should fight for it and not just letting them getting the ball. I think it has some effect. They girls played with new found fire. We manage to score 1st but soon the opponent gets to catch up. The fight was close. When the whistle blow, we were so happy that we actually won by 1 point. With this victory, team A is able to go to Round 2. The girls will then be playing against Evergreen Pr (junior team)... oh no.. not Evergreen again.
Now the girls have to decide if they want the silver or gold trophy. The match was nerve wrecking for me and Azna. When the game end, it was a draw. Iznie was crying and Azna had to console her. 2 mins was added and it was still a draw. So then it went into sudden death and Evergreen has the centre pass which I think would favour them. However, thank you to the quick save, the ball became ours. My heart was pumping hard. I was muttering to myself to let Iznie get a good shot and SHE DID! The moment the ball went into the net, all of us started screaming and jumping and hugging everyone. It was a joyous moment. Just like Azna said its not about winning but its victory against who. Evergreen had defeated the girls twice before, during North Zone Championship & the Sports Challenge at Unity Sec. This victory was sooo sweet.
The other team was not doing that well because of lack of experience players. It consist of Farhati, Farah, Atikah, Aisyah, Priya, Zarifah and Tracia. Aziemah, Charlotte and Jasmine are the reserves. During the game, I realised that Charlotte is getting a hang of the game and she did save some balls. Although they last all the matches, they really did better than the previous game. There was more chemistry. No doubt they still have a long way to go before they could play like the 1st team. Hey, i still believe that an improvement is a good sign. Atikah & Zarifah tried their best and manage to put some goals in. Even Farhati was very good. She didn't whine or complain. That's a good sign of maturity. I'm so happy for them. In fact I'm very proud of them, Team A and Team B. I still believe its not about the game but its how they play the game. Congrats to all of them!!!
